Narrative Writing Rubrics, Student-friendly!

These two rubrics help students understand what is expected of them and make grading easier for the teacher. One is specifically for a story with a life lesson; the other is for a folktale or myth. I've used and refined these two rubrics to teach my fourth graders and to score their writing. The rubric criteria begin with sentences such as "Your writing..." or "Your sentences..." and avoid negative language as well as jargon. Every aspect of writing is explained clearly so students know exactly what they need to do in order to improve.
