Ted Lasso for Teachers

If you've watched this unique Apple TV series, you've undoubtedly noticed that Ted Lasso is an outstanding human being. He's in a position parallel to us teachers in that he is a soccer coach; he teaches and advises younger people. He also has a boss who could be analogous to a principal.

Let's think together about how he treats these fellow human beings.

No one escapes his respect and validation, not even the bad actors on the team.

Instead of telling people off, he explains the situation.

When people insult him, he smiles, nods, and shrugs.

He accepts the advice of his coworkers, even lowly Nathan. Ted treats Nathan as reverently as he treats the team owner.

Ted greets everyone with a warm smile and genuine interest in their lives, even the scheming team owner, Rebecca, who is plotting against him. Every day he bakes breakfast biscuits for her.

Winning or losing doesn't matter; his goal is to make the team better players and better people.

Every day he is cheerful.

Is this all because he has a perfect life with no hardships? Not at all. His heart is breaking and he misses his young son terribly. He experiences panic attacks.

Is Ted Lasso too good to be true?

Imagine the difference if we apply just a few of these character traits in our schools.
